We went on our first camping trip of 2015, just an overnighter, to see how the girls would do…
I say “first” camping trip in hopes that there will be at least a couple more this year, if I can convince my hubby. 😉 It is a bit more work and ALOT more stuff to pack with an almost 4-year-old and a 10 month old, but so worth it. Overall, they both did great. This was Joslyn’s second camping trip and Addi’s first. We went to one of our favorite spots, Lion’s Rock. This is also the spot we got married 6 years ago, on July 11th, and two years later on the same day, Miss Jos joined our family.
While Justin got the tent set up, I entertained the girls and took a million photos. Imagine that! I realize Jos doesn’t look very “entertained” here but trust me, she was having a blast. 😉
Flowers and pinecones and sticks, OH MY! So much for a babe to explore and attempt to eat.
Relaxed in the tent for a bit after getting it set up and then went on a little scavenger hunt.
After that, it was dinner time. Hot dogs but not over a fire as it is SO dry and there is a burn ban. Think we may have to take the girls to the west side of the mountains to experience a real campfire.
S’mores for dessert, of course. Addi had carrots for dinner and blueberries for dessert. One day she will get to partake in the camp food experience. 😉
She did get to have a few graham crackers, at least.
After dinner, we hiked up to Lion’s Rock, since we didn’t actually camp next to it.
It was a gorgeous evening! Justin and Jos are standing in the exact spot where Justin and I got married. She thought that was pretty neat and we had to play a few rounds of “getting married” in which she “got married with me”. She called this spot, The Marry Spot.
After our walk, it was back to the tent for some card games. We were up late and got to see the gorgeous, almost full moon, glowing bright and orange and the stars.
Good night, Mt. Adams.
And Good Morning, at 5am! Oh yes, Miss Addi was up bright and early despite not going to sleep until waaaay past her bedtime. The Flicker Momma and her babies that were nested in a tree above our tent must have woken her. 😉
And then there is this girl who slept in until like 8:30 when we finally sent Addi in to wake her up. Sleeping outdoors must suit her.
The sunrise as Addi and I ventured out on our 5am morning walk. We saw an elk walking along the hillside and lots of birds starting their day.
Oatmeal for breakfast.
I don’t know about you but I think seeing the power of a wildfire is pretty cool. All of the charred trees, burned and dead but sustaining so much life, the fireweed and other small plants growing and thriving in the aftermath. Amazing!
Below are a few pics of Nala girl too…
Back in 2006, this was the first spot she went camping as well. Also, the first time she slept with us and never went back…. 😉 Can’t believe it will be 2 months tomorrow since we said goodbye. We miss her everyday.
