Wow, so many photos to go through and so little time, but since I’ve been asked about more photos by a couple of very important people that we love dearly (Auntie Alison & Nanny), I thought I’d get a few up here especially for them.  So, this will be the first installment documenting our wonderful vacation on Vancouver Island last week.

We stayed in the town of Tofino, British Columbia, which unknown to us, turned out to be quite the surfing town.  That was definitely the thing to do there along with kayaking (we’ll have to try that when Jos is older), whale watching (didn’t see any…boohoo), beach combing, and enjoying the many native art galleries.  It was so nice to walk on the sandy beaches every morning, after coffee, enjoying the view, checking out the sea life in the tide pools, and finding shells on the beach.

This was from the first place we stayed…we tried out two different spots that were very close to each other, one for two nights and the other for three nights.  This was at Crystal Cove and the beach there was so nice and the little cove was perfect!  This is where Joslyn got to walk barefoot in the sand for the first time and also eat a bit of sand for the first time…yes, she took a big handful and it went straight to her mouth, of course.  Unphased, she went back for a second bite but didn’t manage to get that one before an intervention occurred!  Nala also met another Ridgeback and got to run with him for a bit our first night there.  There were tons of dogs and everyone seemed extremely dog friendly and for the most part, conscientious about picking up after their dogs which was nice to see.  This picture was taken by a cute young couple who offered to take it for us and as the girl was taking it she told us not to worry that she wouldn’t run off with the camera…haha!  As I giggled nervously (not really nervous) Justin said under his breath for me not to worry that he could run fast.  Glad I married a track star because I would have been seriously upset had this gal taken off with my camera and my new lens I received for Mother’s Day! Yes, not only was my hubs a track star at UW, but he’s also very good at keeping me up to date with the latest gadgets and accessories for my camera!  Thanks babe!

I think Nala would be happy living at the beach…she is such a happy and bouncy girl when her paws hit the sand.  She’s definitely our beach babe.

At least it was this past week…we just got back from a wonderful week in Tofino, B.C.! The weather was gorgeous and sunny the entire time (not a drop of rain fell), the beaches were breathtaking and beautiful, and Miss Joslyn got to experience the sand and surf for the first time.  What a lucky girl I am to get to spend a week with my precious family in this amazing little spot.  I can’t wait to go back when Jos is a bit older!

Miss J is 10 months old today!  Oh my goodness, only two more months until she’s 1!  Check out how thick her hair is getting too.  I hadn’t noticed until I looked at this picture.  It’s especially thicker compared to the others in her monthly collage.  Other people have noticed, but I guess since I’m with her everyday it hasn’t been as apparent to me until now.  She is probably weighing in at about 20 lbs now and she seems to be getting taller all the time.  She is crawling all over the place and getting faster especially when she’s crawling after Momma, she’s pulling up on the couch, kitchen chairs, the wall, etc…, she’s getting quite good at walking holding onto our fingers, she’s gaining some balance and is able to stay upright for at least a second (hey, that’s good stuff!) on her own.  She also got her 7th tooth today, which may explain her need to be close to Momma most of the day and her multiple awakenings so far tonight.  Our baby is growing up.

This was from today.  I put Miss J down and went to wash my hands and before I knew it she was under my feet asking to be picked up and grabbing at my leg.   Teething is rough on sweet babes.

In other news…

Joslyn’s latest trick is crawling under the kitchen table chairs.

However, getting out is NOT her favorite part as she tends to bump her head.

Joslyn has also been enjoying crawling through the play tunnel we had for Nala when she was a puppy.  We met our friends at the park earlier this week and they brought along their tunnel which reminded me that we had one, so Justin dug it out of the garage for Joslyn.  She has been having tons of fun crawling through it, playing hide and seek with Momma in it, and having some story time in it.

A few more pictures from this past weekend when Joslyn’s Nanny, Grampi, and Uncle Joel visited.  I think this was the second time Uncle Joel has held Joslyn.  The first was when she was 5 days old.  I love her expression as she’s checking him out.

Joslyn & Nala certainly seem to have a special connection.  Joslyn loves her Nala and is always signing “dog” and trying to say Nala these days.  She crawls to her and reaches out her hands to touch Nala, she pulls up on the couch to see Nala up there snoozing (well, Nala was snoozing before she heard a little munchkin launching an attack ),  and sometimes Nala is ok with it and others not so much.  Although Nala may high-tail it away from Joslyn at times as Joslyn is fast approaching or trying to touch her, don’t let that fool you…

Nala loves her Baby Joslyn too!  It just has to be on Nala’s terms.  Nala loves to give Joslyn ear kisses, sniff the back of her head, and she has also been getting her toys and bringing them over to Joslyn to try and get her to play.  She will do a play bow to Joslyn and then let out a low growl that means, “come on Baby J, chase me around the table!”.   At first, the growl part frightened Joslyn, but I think she now knows that it’s Nala’s way of talking to her and trying to get her to play.  It’s so sweet to see my girls interacting like this.

No doubt, they will eventually wreak havoc together as they run laps around the table pulling out all of their toys to play.  I can see it now…

Joslyn sure enjoyed spending time with her Nanny & Grampi this weekend.  We went to the park before they left and snapped a few pictures while we were there.  We were trying to get Joslyn to smile, but she was doing things her way.  She was pretty serious until she decided to turn toward her Grampi and lean over and grab his arm giving him a big hug.  Then the smiles came!  After hugging Grampi she leaned back and put her head against her Nanny giving her a hug too.  So sweet!

I wasn’t going to post today, but I just had to share this.

It’s official…Nala reigns supreme around here!  Joslyn has been signing dog and attempting to say Nala.  It’s so cute.  She often looks toward the slider, where Nala likes to lay in the sun, and will sign dog even if Nala is not there.  In this video her sign is subtle, but there’s no question she is signing dog.  I have been trying to capture it on video but there’s never a camera around when she does it.  This time I was holding her in one arm while I grabbed my camera and turned it to video mode to record her with the other.  So, you will have to excuse the poor video quality.  She was much more excited in her signing before the camera came out…oh well, at least I got it.  It kind of sounds like she is saying   Dada at the end, but I really think she is trying to say Nala as her “Dada” often seems more pronounced to me, but maybe that’s just me.

After Nala, Dada comes in second place.  Joslyn says Dada alot and quite often seems to know who the word is associated with.  She’s not signing it yet though, so this is why Nala gets top honors!

Last but not least, is Momma in 3rd place.  That’s right, I am in last place.  Joslyn says “mom mom mom” but I’m not sure she knows it’s associated with me yet.  However, when I say, “Where’s Momma?” she definitely knows who I’m talking about.  I’m going to have to step up my game and start really reinforcing the Momma!

Joslyn enjoyed a desert hike to Ancient Lakes yesterday with Momma and Daddy.  We left early since we had a bit of a drive, packed a lunch, made sure Miss J was decked out in her hand-me-down sunsuit from our friends (Thanks Leah…this suit is perfect!), her sunhat, and she even had sunscreen on for the first time.  The weather was gorgeous and there was a light breeze which was nice.  Joslyn did awesome throughout the entire trip…her giraffe, Sophie, didn’t fare as well though as she made several nose dives to the ground below on our journey. We opted to leave Nala at home, I know…we felt really bad, but Nala wouldn’t have enjoyed this hike in the open sun.  Even though she is an African breed she will refuse to go and just stop in the middle of the trail if she gets hot…go figure!  Also, this area is home to rattlesnakes and while we didn’t see any and felt safe with Joslyn on the trail we knew Nala would be running around sticking her nose into everything, so we didn’t risk it.  She got some great play time in with her pal today though to make up for it.

Here are a few of the 9 month shots I took of Joslyn last Friday at my friend’s house.  I posted a few more on my photography blog  and wanted to share some here too.  I am posting way too many because I really struggle to narrow it down especially when it comes to pictures of my sweet girl.

Joslyn can hold herself up now, but she still hasn’t pulled herself all the way up by herself. Today though she pulled up to almost standing using my knees, but they were to low for her to stand straight up, so she was a bit bent over.  Also, if she grabs something while standing she forgets about holding on and tends to fall backwards.

Lovin’ the grass and flowers…both of us, that is!

Let’s just say that Joslyn enjoyed the flowers a little too much! She tried to eat two of them and was highly upset when I took her yellow tulip from her.
